‘Stay With Me, captures the conflicts, and complexities of the Covid19
pandemic, which touched all of us, in one way or another. Some of us muscled through the virus itself, and emerged, mercifully unscathed. Others were ravaged and tragically lost. In a sad irony, many were
untouched by the disease itself but nonetheless, had their livelihoods torn away, by quarantines and restrictions that seemed endless; again, in one way or another, no one escaped.
‘Stay With Me,’ reflects this time of complete unknowns, and the uncertainty that ruled across the globe. Leonard sets opposing needs against each other, “I’m wanting you so badly. A hug could be your
death, “and at the same time he lauds the real heroes of the time, the front-line medical workers, who gave of themselves so valiantly, “I hope we will remember. I hope we will repay.” The shuffling nature
of the arrangement belies the pleading within the song. It asks to bring everyone back, to turn it all around.
It's a song of gratitude to the heroes, and a beseeching of the fading ghost of a pre-pandemic past, to ‘Stay With Me.” It’s all of the conflicts, all the complexities of the time. Ronan says “I wanted to write a
song of gratitude, hope, lessons learned, and how we can do the right thing in the most difficult of circumstances”.
lyrics
Stay with me
Let me be your hero. Stay away from me.
Let there be a space, a space where we can breath.
A kiss of life could kill you and take you breath away.
It don’t mean I don’t need you. I need you to stay.
Stay with me. Stay with me.
Stay with me please.
I'm wanting you so badly. A hug could be your death.
and I can’t be there with you as you draw your last breath.
there's lovin in this distance. As our hearts beg us to play.
But we keep up resistance because I need you to stay.
Stay with me. Stay with me.
Stay with me please.
Stay with me. Stay with me.
Stay with me please.
Its once in a Lifetime.
In a hundred years.
This Could be the right time to face all our fears,
face all our fears.
When we climb that mountain.
When we count the cost.
Well honour our heroes, pray for our lost.
I hope we will remember. I hope we will repay.
Although our hearts are broken. We need you to stay.
Stay with me. Stay with me.
Stay with me please.
Stay with me. Stay with me.
Stay with me please.
